My philosophy: keep it as local as possible.
I purchase my logs from a local logging company which operates within 100km of my location. I also try to use every piece of the log. If it is the sawdust for live stock bedding or the slabs for firewood. Just like hunting I try to put everything to use.

About me
I came to the Yukon in 2019 from Germany. After working in Haines Junction for two years to get my permanent residency I decided to try something new and opened my own wood business.
I started of by building furniture, kids toys, several smaller buildings, cabins, ect.
I’ve always loved working with wood and I always loved working outdoors. Being able to combine these two things and work from home surrounded by my family is something I highly appreciate.
About the business
I started the business in 2023 as a sole proprietorship.
So it is a one-man-operation. I run a medium sized Norwood LM30.
Even though I don’t have any hydraulic support I can run the mill quite effectively with my current setup and experience.
Milling Service
Do you have your own logs and want to safe some money?
Bring them to me and I turn them into valuable lumber of your choice!
How it works?
Simple!
- Make an appointment via Email
- Deliver the logs and place them on my log rack
(no heavy equipment available)
- Depending on the amount you can either wait or come back for pick up
Details
$ 150 per hour
(I will use a stop watch to keep exact track of my time and your costs)
The logs have to be clean of any dirt, sand and metal objects like nails, screws, etc.
(Additional $40 charge for every blade dulled or broken by any contaminations)
Logs must be delivered and placed on the feeding rack
Lumber must be picked up in a timely manner
How long does it take to mill?
That question is not easy to answer since there are a lot of circumstances that effect the milling speed.
There are a few rules of thumb:
- the bigger the log the longer it takes
- the longer the log the longer it takes
- the more cuts I have to make the longer it takes
- the more “odd” the log the longer it takes
Log requirements
Length:
Minimum 50 inches
Maximum 20 ft.
Diameter:
Minimum 4 inches (top end)
Maximum 24 inches (top end)

That was about one hour of work which means about $150 for you.
Current value in town about $300.
(plus the money you save in fuel if you are for example from Haines Junction).
